Pinglin Baozhong Tea Festival

Introduction

The unique tourism resources and cultural history of tea are integrated to create a new way of life. Sharing books by well-known writers, we have established the most natural distinctive reading environment for busy people in modern society. Pinglin is transformed into a cultural and artistic township while savoring the world-class Wenshan Baozhong Tea. Local stores target the youth by new packaging and new ideas. Through BLOG and video sharing, young people will find tea-drinking a ‘cool’ thing to do.

‘Tea houses’, combined with ‘creativity markets’, will bring back the fun of tea-drinking. Nostalgia items and creative artworks related to food and entertainment are also displayed to present cultural arts of old and new.

Local Attractions

Baozhong Tea

Pinglin Township is mostly mountainous. There is Beishi River meandering throughout the township territory, and the valley plains are distributed on both sides of the river. It is a densely populated area of Pinglin, water source protection areas and tourist shrines.

Mountains are spread all over the township territory with tea plantations rise and fall amid of them. Rich in tea culture, the warm, humid, cloudy, and foggy climate is ideal for growing tea. Apart from the favorable environment, hardworking farmers and excellent tea production technology since Qing Dynasty are its driving force in producing good tea and developing the tea industry. Therefore, the “Wenshan Baozhong Tea” enjoys wide popularity and is reputed as the “South Oolong, North Baozhong”.

Tea Museum

Covering an area of 2.7 hectares, the Tea Museum is located east of Pinglin Old Bridge by the mountain near the river. The building is made of red tiles in antique Fujian-style. There are also tourism tea plantations in the surrounding. The museum is divided into two large exhibition halls, “General Exhibition Hall” and “Events Exhibition Hall”. In addition, there are multi-media projection room, tea promotion center, outdoor tea area, tourist service center and other facilities in the peripheral. Both sides of the red arch bridge connecting Tea Museum and the Pinglin urban area are reserved as the site for The Riverside Park. The 2-meter wide landscape trail is besides the river ban. The fish and shrimps swimming freely in the river are protected by conservation laws. Strolling and savoring tea in the beautiful scenery of green mountains and clear creek makes tourists at ease in the mind.

Pinglin Old Street

During the early period of Pinglin Street developments, building materials were virtually local materials. Stone plates from Beishi River were used to build walls. As a result, Fujian style stone houses could be seen everywhere on Pinglin Street in the past.

However, The Old Street was no longer the way it was due to reconstruction and renovation. However, under active efforts of the government, The Old Street was included as one of the tourist spots. Floor tiles were laid, the River Park was setup, and the arched bridges/Bao-Ping Temple underwent renovation to restore its vitality.
