Local Attractions
Left Bank Scenic Route
There are abundant natural resources and cultural landscape in Left Bank of Bali. The scenic spots include: Bali Ferry Terminal,
Tianhou Temple, Tachungyeh Temple, Old Ficus Blockhouse, Left Bank Park, Left Bank Pier, Left Bank Hall, Left Bank Theater,
Mangroves Park, Watsaiwei Ecological Reserved Area, Ocean-view Long Beach and Shihsanhang Museum, etc. Along the
footpaths and bicycle lanes, numerous tea houses and coffee shops that provide a cozy ambience come into view. Apart from the
beautiful scene of Tamsui River, local specialty foods are available, such as peacock clams, salted egg, pepper cake, shrimp roll,
Taiwanese popsicles, fish ball, and brown-sugar glutinous rice cake. The ferry ride is also an experience not to be missed.
Shisanhang Museum
Shisanhang Museum is the first archaeological museum in northern Taiwan. It is a building of great features, inspired by
archaeological excavations and the voyage of ancestors to Taiwan. The regularly scheduled exhibitions (i.e. the “return to
Shisanhang”, divided into six units) preserve, display and illustrate the archaeological finds at Shisanhang ruin (e.g. the ‘human face
pottery pot’). There is also a learning experience room, special pavilion, lecture hall, grocery stores and restaurants. Furthermore, the museum features the unique “Time Chair.” Tour services and diverse programs are also available.
Guanyinshan Scenic Area
Guanyinshan is located amongst Tamsui, Bali and Wugu and 612m above sea level. There is a Yinghan (Tough Man) Hill at the
summit, which is a must-see for climbers. There are 18 tortuous small peaks in Guanyinshan. It earned its name from its
resemblance to Guanyin Buddha lying sideways from Taipei basin or Tamsui River. Due to volatility of Guanyinshan caused by
frequent surrounding of cloud and fog, it had once been one of eight scenes of North Tamsui. In the old days it was called “Xi Hill spitting fog”. Whether watching from the top of a mountainous or hilly terrain at a distance or the basin nearby, the wide expanse ofTaipei and coastal plains all come into view. With the ribbon-like winding Tamsui River shining mutually with the green volcano and the azure sea, such a beautiful scene is a rarity.
