Fort Santo Domingo was built by the Dutch in 1644. Since the hair of the Dutch was mostly red, the local people gave the Dutch
building the name of "Red Hair Fort". In the very beginning, the main function of Fort Santo Domingo was for military defense. Many
defensive facilities can be found inside the building. For example, the walls of the fort were designed to resist the gunfire attack. Later
on, the Manchurian government of Qing Dynasty took over the "Red Hair Fort" and leased the building to the British officials as their
consulate. The British built a red-brick western building by the side of the fort, adding diversified views to the appearance of Fort
Santo Domingo.
Huwei Battery

the western part of Fujian. During the reigning periods from Jiacing to Daoguang, more and more merchants came to Dingjhou for
trading. In order to take care of the fellow townsmen, the temple released the chambers by its two sides for the fellow townsmen to
live in. Besides, the temple provided money for relief and established mutual-help friendship with the townsmen. Hence, Jinshan
Temple was also known as "Dingjou Hostel".
