Xindian Water Coast Cultural Festival

Introduction

The admirable landscapes and clear water sources have elicited the energy for creation in Xindian. For a long time, Xindian had

been associated with artists, and TAIEX listed or OTC listed companies. Many of you are probably unaware that the name ‘Pitan’ originated from Poet Tsai Yu-Ling from Xindian. Contemporary poets also wrote beautiful verses such as ’Sixteen wines that crash green colored glass’, ‘Rowing toward the sky river’, etc. Pitan Water Coast in March in Spring is transformed into the stage of ‘poetry and tea, art and story.’ Contemporary artists are invited to write heart-moving poetry for Pitan, Xindian and extol the picturesque water coast.

Activity Details

1. Water Theater

Landscapes are the best themes for cultural performances. The audiences are seated by the coast and on the water. The Taiwan UTheatre and other theatres will conduct spectacular performances in Pitan for the general public to re-experience the unique sceneries of Pitan. There are also all sorts of street performances, music, miming, and sketching activities.

Purpose

The arts cultures in Xindian are versatile and creative. Many performance groups like to perform in Xindian including: Taiwan U

Theatre, Taiwan Original Dancers, Chinese Cross Talk, The Comma Theater Company, New Cool Theater, Even Nearer Playback

Theater, Puppet Theater, Six Art Theater Troupe, Southern Heritage Traditional Taiwanese Singing Drama Troupe, and Cloud Gate Dance Theatre are all located in Xindian.

Xindian boasts deep-rooted cultures as well as manmade landscapes such as the famous Pitan Suspension Bridge, Little Chibi,

ferryboat, etc. During ‘The Return of the Spring in March; Green Prevails on the Land’, local cultural groups are invited to create a landscape theater performance that belongs to the land. A cultural arts themed feast will be held to perfectly combine and ‘sell’ the wonders of the landscape and cultural arts. The themed activities will be held on the water, water shore, and bridge. Artists and the people will be invited to experience the cultural vigor of Xindian through the holding of a series of music/dance/visual performances and cultural art market activities.

Local schools will co-organize inter-school contests such as ‘fashion style modeling, cocktail party, street dance contest, spring

concert’, etc. to bring ‘youthfulness’ and ‘vigor’ in the bustling atmosphere. The memory of the new generation in Pitan will be

refreshed once again. It is ‘a date’ with people this spring!

Local Attractions

Pitan

Pitan derived its name from the wideness of its river and clear/calm water. It is ideal for boat rowing, swimming, and fishing. In the eastern coast, the yacht dock offers tourists with the chance to enjoy the scenery along the water coast. In the eastern part of Pitan, the cliff is so stiff that it is known as ‘Little Chibi’ and one of the eight wanders in Taiwan with great sceneries. The traffic routes are also convenient as it is located nearby the Xindian MRT Main Station.

Xindian Old Street

Old Street is now known as ‘Xindian Road’ located eastern to Pitan Suspension Bridge. Back then, this area used to be known as the busiest business area in Xindian City. Various hardware stores, stores, and vendors as well as markets are packed. Business in markets was also good. Vendors used to shout one after another to attract customers. In the afternoon, peace and order were restored again. When walking on Old Street at sunset, one relaxes and indulges in the romantic and reminiscent atmosphere.

Yinhe Cave Hiking Trail

Located by Taipei-Yilan road, Yinhe Cave is a suburb attraction in Xindian. There is a waterfall by the temple. The spring water has a ‘sweet taste’ to it. The sacred water that flows from the left hand of the Lu Tung-Pin statue (Chinese deity) does miracles. Believers often drink from it here. Some even fill it up in containers for home. Beside the temple, there is a mountain trial that connects to Maokong Tourist Tea Garden or nearby tourist attractions and old temples. It is the place to be for sightseers
