Local Attractions

Shenkeng Old Street

Its suitable location as a crossroad between Taipei basin and Yilan as well as a gathering spot for tea and dye traders form it into today’s old street. The ancient houses and remnants have become one of Shenkeng’s characteristics, where the two

hundred-year-old trees are the landmarks of Shenkeng Old Street, standing tall in front of the street as if guarding it safely.

Yonganju House of Huang, Shenkeng

Yonganju House is Shenkeng’s only third class historical site and is located beside 106 County Road. It is a three-section compound with walls made of stone and roofs of red bricks. The roofs are decorated swallow-like ends, and the dragons on the left and right of

symbolizes the characters gold and fire. Its indoor pillars come from Suzhou and walls are decorated with beautifully carved tiles.

Beautifully written calligraphy ornaments the halls.

Delicacy of Shenkeng

Shenkeng bean curd is nationally renowned. Braised bean curd is a well-known dish amongst the old street of Shenkeng. The

reasons it is so popular are: 1. Its production method: high quality beans and charcoal warming. 2. Cuisine style: local style braising.

The method of making this traditional dish is said to have 40 years of history. Glutinous rice dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves is another popularlocal delicacy, with both traditional northern style and exotic southern style.
