(10/01-10/01) Linkou Taiwanese Opera Cultural Festival

Objectives

Linkou Taiwanese Opera Cultural Festival organized by members of the Beiguan and Nanguan Art Research Association of Linkou in Taipei County, Lelin Club and Yuelexuan, in 2005 and 2006 has received great responses from Linkou people. In order to continue and generate the coherence between local people of both old and young generations, local officials hope to deeply root the culture of Zidixi in the community for local people to rediscover and better understand the traditional art and music culture.

Centering on "2011 Linkou Taiwanese Opera Cultural Festival - Inheritance and Innovation", the event includes not only shows by Zidi of the 7th generation of Lelin Club, but also training for the 8th generation Zidi to participate in the shows. Focusing on agricultural villages, the young students in the development associations of Jiabao Village and Jiaruei community participate enthusiastically in planning the participation & training plans so that traditional Taiwanese Opera will be reproduced in Linkou. Little Zidi will be trained, transformed and passed on the skills by professional Zidixi teachers and become a new feature of the local culture.

Introduction

For the general public in the community to get to know the precious local cultural assets and connect the traditional Nanguan and Beiguan music with daily life, a performance in the community is scheduled on Otober-1st -2011 ( for now). The aims are to implement promotion, rehearsals and performances of Taiwanese Operas on campus via a series of activities so that students and people in the community will regain the understanding and be exposed as well as appreciate the folk opera culture of Linkou.

About the Activity

The century-old traditional Zidixi and Nanguan and Beiguan music will meet you at 1 p.m. on October 1st, 2011 in Linkou Community Sports Park. This year, the theme of Linkou Taiwanese Opera Cultural Festival is Inheritance and Innovation. Combining with pilgrimage, performances, exhibitions and experience activities, the festival is extremely joyful, exhibiting amazing cultural vitalities. From 2 p.m., all clubs in Linkou start the pilgrimage to begin the Taiwanese Opera Cultural Festival followed by more great performances in the main venue. The divine general experience and makeup activities in the stand area are suitable for adults and children. In the evening, shows brought by ZiDix of the 6th and 8th generations of Lelin Club and Hunan Community club, and the debut performance of Linkou Jiabao Elementary School, including Ms. Shulan Is Getting Married, The Eight Deities Cross the Sea, Feast of Peaches and Wine Deities are arranged. Linkou Township Office would like to invite all to witness the inheritance and innovation of the local culture.

Starting from this September, seminars are in communities and campuses so that people of communities and students will better understand the culture of Linkou Taiwanese Operas as well as warm up for the cultural festival, starting on October 1st. From 9-10:30 a.m. on September 3rd, "The Inheritance and Innovation of Taiwanese Opera " is held in the Hall of Linkou Jiabao Elementary School ; from 2-5 p.m. on September 2nd, "Taiwanese Opera Makeup Experience Activity" is held at the Future Hill Square (at the interaction of Renai Road and Wenhua 2nd Road); from July 1st to September 30th, 9:00-12:00 p.m. and 7:30-9 p.m., Monday through Friday, the temple of Zantian Temple is open to the public for observing the rehearsals of Zidi. (Jiabao Elementary School is not open to the public.) The annual Linkou Taiwanese Opera Arts Festival is an event can not be missed. The local government would like to invite parents to bring their kids along to better understand the Linkou traditional art.

Local Highlights

It was because believers of three townships, Luzhu, Linkou and Guishan, come to worship, therefore, Zhu for Luzhu, lin for Linkou and shan for Guishan were taken to name the temple. It is one of the important historic sites in northern Taiwan. Zhulinshan Guanyin Temple is a majestic, palace-style temple with a touch of nostalgia. It has a vast front garden with a fountain of crystal clear water with carefree fish swimming inside. With the sound of water and the embrace of bamboos, the scenery around the temple changes according to the change of seasons. It is truly amazing. The temple is always crowded with visitors with incenses burning throughout the year. Zhulinshan Guanyin Temple is a religious center for Linkou Townspeople and is also a unique historic site and scenic spot in northern Taiwan.

Located at the intersection of the hill foot between the east-south side of Linkou Plateau and Taishan District, there are landscapes such as decorated archway at the entrance of the trail, green footpath, carpet trail, Shangche Pavilion (the viewing platform), Lovers Bridge, Tough Men Slope, Wood Trail, Tung Blossom Trail, Wind Point Trail, Common Jasmine Orange Trail and Independent Tree along the trail. Also, more than 30 signboards introducing plants and more than 10 signboards introducing animals are set up along the trail.

It is situated at the intersection between Wenhua 1st Road, Renai Village and the Renai Road with a total area of 6.6 Hectares and is a multi-functional leisure sports park which provides a place for leisure in the busy city life. Inside the multi-functional sports park, there are softball, roller blade and game ball fields as well as a playground for parents and children. The total area of Linkou Baseball Field across the park is 2.3 hectares. It is one of the few standard baseball fields for little leagues.
