Introduction

"Hip Hop Culture" originated among African and Latin American young people in 1973 in New York City. Today, it is almost the major cultural heritage of Harlem in New York and Hip Hop music has become mainstream music in America. Rap (MC), DJ, Street Dance (B-Boy) and graffiti are collectively referred to as the four elements of Hip Hop. This New York trend will re-emerge in New Taipei City. The famous movie "Style Wars" depicting the golden age of young people in the city demonstrating their creativity shows the world New York City culture in the early 80s - Hip Hop culture. More importantly, the movie also introduced graffiti culture to the world. The movie makes it clear that Hip Hop is a culture that keeps producing young artists and is the ultimate culture worthy of wide promotion.

Banqiao of New Taipei City carries special significance in Taiwan street dance culture. For years, many energetic young people gather at the Banquio Train Station to interact with others through their dances as well as compete with each other on weekends. This is also the crib for street dance as it has fostered many outstanding street dancer stars that shine in the world.

In order to further promote street dance culture as well as attract support and participation of domestic and foreign professional street dancers and street dance lovers, this year's activity will be tightly connected with the four major Hip Hop elements which are street dance, graffiti, rap and DJ. Street dance competition at the international level is the main activity and the organizer will invite foreign street dancers to participate in the competition. In addition, rap competitions and graffiti competitions are also scheduled. The aim of the activity is to put the name of New Taipei City Street Dance on the map and to construct New Taipei City as a city of trends. Once again, the New Taipei City Government does its cultural marketing via the activity and makes the world see the city through the competition that promotes international exchange.

About the Activities

1. The Street Dance Competition

The competition is divided into the following categories: Breaking Battle, Hip Hop Battle and Free Style. Preliminary competitions will be held in the north, central and south of Taiwan ending with the final competition. The theme of "Breaking Battles 5 on 5" is breaking.
"Hip-Hop Battle 2 on 2" - Hip Hop dance Style originated from Hip Hop Music.
"Free style " - No specific type is required with 5-8 dancers and without violating the morals.
"Cypher Competition - No Certain Dance Style Is Required" - Registration at the venue. For individual or group contestants and no special requirements of dance style.

2. Graffiti Competition

Graffiti lovers with no age and gender limitations are invited to participate. The graffiti work of the champion will be printed on T-Shirts as souvenirs. The big-sized graffiti boards of the contestants will be exhibited in the place where the activity is held. The organizer will also invite judges and 3D graffiti masters to do graffiti on-scene for the public to take pictures.

3. Rap Competition

All rap-lovers, regardless of their age or sex, are welcomed to participate as groups. Submission is open to all. Please send work based on the themes provided by the organizer. Works chosen will be performing on-scene and professional judges will then decide on the champion. All pieces submitted must be original.
