Linkou Taiwanese opera Cultural Festival

Introduction 

“ZiDiXi” means “Apprentice Music Plays” because they exchange musical knowledge and information. Currently there are 9 ZiDi groups in Linkou area: LeLin, YueLe, ZhongXing, XianLin, PingLe, BaoLe, FuXing, FuLe and HongFu. They belong to the 

“North-South Pipe Arts Research Association of Linkou, Taipei County”. Members of each group frequently associate with one 

another and provide mutual assistance. They contribute to various arts festivals, especially on Guanyin Buddha’s Birthday, on the 19th of September of the Chinese Lunar Calendar. Through a series of performances, local residents will begin to appreciate ZiDi culture again.

 

Activity Details:

1. ZiDi Muscial Learning and Community Affiliation

a. Hold 2 seminars on “Introducing Pipe and ZiDi Musical”

b. Continue 2006 publication of “Simple Students (ZiDi) of Red-Earthed Taiwan”, and focuses on interview with senior and junior members of the various ZiDi Group.

c. Create arts promotional material based on recording of ZiDi’s characters, rehearsals and performances. Exciting promotional 

material includes teachings from the experienced Mr. Gen-Teng Lin of LeLin Group.

d. Using guide method to introduce postures, tones, musical instruments and   development process of ZiDi musical to citizens.

 

2. Let’s act!

Intensive rehearsals are open to the public to observe and participate. Public performances will be held in early August.

 

3. Exhibition and Experience

ZiDi exhibitions, ZiDi story telling, summoning of gods, make-up process, and other events are held to give people better 

understanding of Pipe and ZiDi musicals.

 

 

Purpose

In 2006, LeLin’s 80th Performance began Ms. Ya-Ling Xiao’s investigation record of ZiDi musical’s development in Linkou, and 

published her findings in the book “Simple Students of Red-Earthed Taiwan – Linkou Pipe Arts Research Center of LeLin Park”. It hopes to create a resonance and cohesion among Linkou’s residents, and let them discover the beauty and simplicity of traditional arts and music.

 

 

Local Attractions

Zhulin Guanyin Temple

The temple is named after the three townships that shared the temple: Luzhu, Linkou and Guishan. It is one of the most popular historical sites in northern Taiwan. Its ancient touch and majestic feeling portrays an exquisite scene throughout the seasons. The temple is also a faith center for many of Linkou’s residents.

 

Xinlin Trail 

The trail is located at the intersection between Linkou County and Taishan County. Along its path are Hiking Pavilion, Caoyin Trail, Carpet Trail, Shangche Pavilion, Lovers Bridge, Heroes Slope, Wood Stack Trail, Tung Blossom Trail, Wind Point Trail, Common Jasmine Orange Trail and Independent Tree. Various signboards that introduce plants and animals are along many trails and scenes, which are set up by the collective efforts of volunteers and mountain climbing committee.

 

Linkou Sports Park 

The park, 6.6 hectares, is located at crossroads of Wenhua 1st St and Renai Road. It is a multi-purpose sports park that provides a resting place for busy city life. Recreational facilities include softball, roller-blade and game ball fields, children’s playing ground and many more. Across from the park is Linkou Baseball Field, taking up 2.3 hectares, is also one of the few standardized baseball fields in the country. (1 hectare = 10000 square meters)
