Sanxia Arts Festival - Unleash Your Imagination

Introduction

Sanxia is a deeply cultural town with Taipei County’s valuable heritage, like Sanxia Old Street, Historical Museum, Zushiye Temple,Mei-Shu Li Memorial Hall, Sanxia Lanran, etc. Within the county, sixteen schools, Sanjiaoyung Cultural Association, Sanxia

Aragonite and Jade Association, Shuangchun Zeng, Zhengjin Fan, Mu-ren Xu, and other various artists all contributed to the long term development of arts in Sanxia.

“Unleash Your Imagination – Sanxia Arts Festival” has the purpose of creating an art map of Sanxia. Community volunteers or arts workers are invited to conduct a demographic study of Sanxia’s artists and create their database.

Activity Details:

1. Art Map of Sanxia

It encourages artists to share their resources and provide affiliations. Through visitations and other events, we encourage local

artists to partake in the community and create a collectible “Art Map” of Sanxia as well as promote Sanxia’s artists and

simultaneously provide tourism locations for Sanxia.

2. Collective Arts Exhibition

With “Impressions of Sanxia” as the theme, invitations are made to artists and residents to create artwork which could be used in the future as postcards or other promotional artistic products. During the exhibition, seminars and workshops can be conducted to stimulate further interests in arts creation.

3. Arts DIY

On “Arts DIY” Day, residents and artists are cordially invited to an Art Fair to demonstrate their works.

Purpose

With spreading of arts as the fundamental concept, we integrate the strength of schools, communities, arts groups and artists in the collective effort of promoting Sanxia’s arts. We hope to increase awareness of people’s artistic appreciation, and to foster Sanxia into an arts city.

The elderly, the young, and families are all encouraged to participate in the overall increase in artistic value of the activity. Further, emphasis is placed on the development in the communities. By connecting with local artists, awareness can be raised in the education of the public regarding arts and its values. The combined effect is a better cohesion among residents, raise cultural value of Sanxia and reach the ideal of sustainable management.

Local Attractions

Sanxia Old Street

The old street is located on the west side of Zushi temple and 200 meters in length. The stores on its sides preserve the ancient tradition of having hall or family names on their signboards, which is different from the conventional signboards we see today.

Through the Baroque and Arcade styles of architecture, a picture can be conjured up of how the street used to be, with its unique buildings displaying an elegant scene and exuding a unique aura of beauty.

Zushi Temple

The temple was built in the Qin Dynasty and possesses the reputation of “Eastern Arts Palace”. It was reconstructed three times and under the direction of Professor Mei-Shu Li, utilized a more traditional approach of construction that focuses on displaying the value

of its stone pillars, sculptures and other artistic values. Many devoted people visit the temple daily, and on the 6th of the first month of the Chinese Lunar Calendar, an event is held to celebrate Zushi’s birthday.

Yuanshan Bronze Bell

“Liberation Memorial Bell” is a famous landmark of Yuanshan Park. It is erected to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Taiwan’sindependence, and to pay respect to the Sanxia resistance against Japan who died fighting for freedom. Its broad view of scenery makes it a favorite location for vacations.
