The Origin

Holding cultural festivals is one of the effective strategies to promote local tourism as well as an important way to bring together locals’ recognition for the place where they live and to improve their self-regard.  Shulin has long enjoyed a reputation as the “Hometown to Taiwan’s red wine” and “Hometown to Taiwan’s red yeast”.  Despite the fact that they are the most precious historical treasures of Shulin, they are also the most effective instruments to attract non-local visitors. The advantages of Shulin red yeast rice along with red yeast rice derived products, tourist attractions, historic sites and its convenient transportation are all important indicators for the future development of Shulin.  Red yeast rice and the historical development of Shulin are inseparable.  In order for such pleasant early-day memories and history to be passed on and continued, the Red Yeast Rice Festival has shouldered the responsibility of passing the Shulin history on to the next generation.  This year’s Red Yeast Rice Festival will be different from the previous ones in terms of both form and contents – its local cultures, special products, scenery and tourism are combined to display the diverse culture of New Taipei City.

Activities

I love the Hometown of Red Rice Yeast: In order to pass on the precious asset, red yeast rice left by our predecessors to the future generation, the local government aims to introduce the history of red yeast rice and Shulin to students at kindergartens, elementary schools and junior high schools in Shulin and encourage people to collect red yeast rice related artifacts as well as promoting educational activities, such as the Little Pioneers of Red Yeast Rice Camp.

Trips to the Vintage and Charming Forest: Offering different themed routes for “Happy Shulin Trips” that best suit people for a relaxing and restful weekend. During the period when the activity is held, “Shulin Tourist Train” is available at certain locations and on certain routes.  Also, suggestions for individual bike trips are available.  Introductions by professional tour guides are available in order to attract more people to come to Shulin..
 
“Viva Shulin, Falling in Love with Red Yeast Rice” Carnival: Centering on the red yeast rice products unique to Shulin, the activity combines the local cultural characteristics and art and cultural resources to bind the industries in Shulin and its cultural resources together. It aims to bring out the fact that Shulin is a cultural and artistic area perfect for having fun and enjoying oneself.  The local city government would like to invite everyone to experience the beauty of Shulin red yeast rice.  Manufacturers of red yeast rice related products will exhibit and sell their products there to promote the red yeast rice industries and tourism development.
